Ex-electoral chief says Nigeria’s fraudulent election is ‘credible’

An ex-chairman of Nigeria’s electoral authority, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Monday night, downplayed the fraud and irregularities witnessed at the voting centers during the last general election, saying the election was “credible in many substantial aspects.”

TruthNigeria reports that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Chicago money launderer, was the victor of the presidential election in February. Tinubu’s victory provoked controversies about his qualifications to run and violations of the electoral process. Opposition parties challenged the election result at the presidential election tribunal and the Supreme Court, but the courts ruled in favor of Tinubu.

Prof. Jega exonerated the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, of blame for the conduct of what many considered a sham election. “In a lot of the areas where there were very serious challenges, politicians played a direct role,” he said.
