Nigeria’s State Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle, has said Nigerian authorities understand the seriousness of the security challenges facing the country, promising that the heart-rending stories of kidnappings and murders that flood the pages of the country’s dailies would end by November 2024.
Bola Tinubu, who assumed office as Nigeria’s president in May, has overseen a vigorous counterattack against the insurgencies of the Northeast and the more numerous bandit gangs in the center of the nation where dozens of armed groups have been killing and kidnapping citizens for ransom.
“God willing, from now to November of 2024, all security challenges will be overcome,” Matawalle said. The Defense Chief said authorities were adopting strategies and a proactive approach to fight the bandits, commonly known as terrorists.
The Minister added that governors of crime-ridden states have teamed up with the central government to synergize on effective ways to combat the escalating crisis.
