A raging fire early Wednesday morning gutted a popular shopping mall known as IC World Center in Nigeria’s capital city Abuja.
Emergency firefighters were able to contain the inferno that completely razed the upper floor of the building. No lives were lost, but goods worth millions of naira were destroyed.
Earlier, at 1:16 a.m. local time, a fire broke out at Karimo market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The mysterious fire consumed hundreds of shops. Traders are now counting their losses.
Confirming the incidents to local press on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, said they responded to three distress calls between 7:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday and 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The 7:30 p.m. fire happened in a building used for commercial purposes in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja, said Adebayo. The causes of the fire, which left no casualties, have yet to be ascertained.
