Military Announces Progress Against Insurgency, Claims Over 2,000 Terrorists Eliminated

The Nigerian Army has issued a statement claiming significant progress in the fight against insurgency, stating that over 2,000 terrorists were killed between January and March 2024.

The announcement, made by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Edward Buba on Thursday, details that a total of 2,351 terrorists were eliminated during various operations conducted across the country’s northern and central regions.

The statement further highlights the recovery of a significant amount of weaponry and ammunition during these operations. These include assault rifles, explosives, and vehicles used by the terrorists in their attacks.

General Buba said some terrorist commanders were among the slain outlaws. He listed the following: Kachallah Damina, Kachallah Alhaji Dayi, Kachallah Idi (a.k.a Namaidaro), Kachallah Kabiru (a.k.a Doka), Kachallah Azarailu (a.k.a Farin-Ruwa), Kachallah Balejo, Kachallah Ubangida, and Alhaji Baldu.

Nigerians face ongoing security challenges, with kidnappings and attacks plaguing northern and central regions where Boko Haram and its splinter groups continue to operate. Despite the announcement, many remain concerned. They hope these reported eliminations translate to real improvement in safety.
