Nigerian Government Donates 100 Motorbikes to Security Forces to Fight Insurgents in Abuja

The Nigerian government is empowering citizen guards, the Vigilance Group of Nigeria (VGN), and security agencies in Nigeria’s capital Abuja to fight kidnapping. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), donated a fleet of 100 motorbikes to security agencies on Monday.

The motorbikes are specifically intended for patrolling hard-to-reach areas within Abuja, which are considered vulnerable to criminal activity. The VGN received 60 motorbikes and the police got 30 while Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and a paramilitary agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) received five each.

Wike emphasized that this donation aligns with President Tinubu’s security agenda and represents a significant step towards enhancing public safety in the FCT. He cautioned the security agencies receiving the motorcycles against their misuse, underscoring the importance of utilizing them for their designated purpose of strengthening security measures in Abuja’s most challenging areas.

“Let me caution, particularly to the security agencies, I don’t want to hear stories tomorrow that the motorcycles are nowhere to be found…Please utilise these motorcycles to fight crimes in the areas you have identified,” Wike said.
