The Nigerian Army’s 21 Armoured Brigade has rescued another Chibok schoolgirl, Ihyi Abudu, who was among the 276 abducted in 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists. Abudu was reportedly rescued along with her two children and 99 other women and children from terrorist dens in Sambisa Forest.
The operation, code-named Operation Lake Sanity ll, was a continuation of the military’s efforts to annihilate Boko Haram in Northeast Nigeria. Abudu, who was number 67 on the list of abducted Chibok schoolgirls, managed to escape from the terrorists’ Parisu hideout and was found during a clearance operation in the Bararam area of Sambisa Forest.
When the troops entered the insurgents’ camp, they found 99 captives, including 41 women and 57 children, who were malnourished and traumatized. The Nigerian Army’s Medical Corps provided them with essential medical care, including vaccinations and medications to prevent disease.
This operation has brought the total number of rescued Chibok girls to 19. Additionally, over 161,000 Boko Haram members and their families have surrendered during various military operations.
