Nigerian security forces flexed their muscle last week, delivering a blow to criminal and terrorist groups operating across the country. According to a statement from Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Friday, troops killed around 220 terrorists and arrested 395 suspected criminals in a series of operations across the country.
The successful missions also freed 202 kidnapped victims who were likely held by these groups. The military operations netted a significant weapons haul, with troops recovering 432 firearms and nearly 9,000 rounds of ammunition. This included heavy weaponry such as PKT machine guns and G3 rifles, alongside more common AK-47s and homemade firearms.
The DHQ report detailed key operations such as airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) that took out 80 terrorists attacking a village in Katsina. In another operation, a raid on a terrorist hideout in Plateau State uncovered a significant stash of weapons.
These operation reports come as Nigeria continues to grapple with security threats, particularly in the northeastern region where Boko Haram and other insurgents remain active.
