Tinubu Inks Landmark Minimum Wage Hike into Law

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu signed a sweeping new minimum wage bill into law yesterday, boosting the country’s minimum monthly wage to ₦70,000 – a significant increase from the previous ₦30,000.

The signing ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, with key government officials in attendance.

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio touted the legislation as a major victory for Nigeria’s working class, saying “no Nigerian worker will offer services and be paid anything less than N70,000 from today. That is the implication of this Act. It applies all over the nation.”

The measure, which takes effect immediately, is expected to benefit millions of workers across the West African nation, including those in the public and private sectors.
