The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced Tuesday the appointment of German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The NFF revealed the news through their official Twitter handle, @thenff, stating that they had reached an agreement with the 57-year-old to take charge of the senior men’s national team.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary, confirmed that Labbadia’s appointment was approved by the Executive Committee following a recommendation from the Technical and Development sub-committee.
He replaces Finidi George, who resigned after a disappointing run in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, leaving the Super Eagles fifth in Group C with only three points.
Labbadia, a former Bayern Munich player, has previously managed several top German clubs, including Darmstadt 98, VfB Stuttgart, and Bayer Leverkusen.
His immediate challenge will be leading the team in the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic on September 7 and Rwanda on September 10. With Labbadia now at the helm, the three-time African champions hope to revive their form and improve their chances of qualification.
