The Nigerian government has called on its citizens residing in Lebanon to return home due to escalating violence in the region. The advisory comes as tensions rise between Israel and Hezbollah, leading to increased instability in Lebanon.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) issued a statement urging Nigerians to leave while commercial flights remain available. “In light of the attacks on Hezbollah and other areas in Lebanon by the Israeli government, we are advising Nigerians in Lebanon to take the opportunity to exit the country now, as flights are still available,” said Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM’s Director of Media.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, announced evacuation plans and requested Nigerians in Lebanon to contact the Nigerian mission for documentation. “All Nigerians in Lebanon are expected to get in touch with the Nigerian mission for profiling and documentation and subsequent evacuation,” he tweeted.
NiDCOM confirmed that no Nigerians have been harmed in the conflict but emphasized vigilance and contact with the Nigerian Embassy in Beirut.
