At least seven people have been reported dead in an ongoing shooting on the outskirts of Jos, the capital of Plateau State. Local leaders tell TruthNigeria that terrorists invaded a small community in the Vom district of Jos South County just minutes before midnight, targeting residents as they prepared for New Year celebrations.
TruthNigeria had warned in the past two weeks of impending terror attacks by Fulani militants in the Jos South area, but the extent of local authorities’ intervention remains unclear.
Just hours before the attack, the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, a Fulani tribal group, issued a press statement announcing a temporary suspension of its members’ participation in a weekly cattle market in Jos South. The decision followed an emergency meeting in response to an alleged shooting of its members on Saturday, December 27, at a gas station in the Bukuru area of the city. No arrests have been made in connection with that incident, but the group has blamed Christian locals for the attacks on their official Facebook pages.
TruthNigeria’s advance warnings cited the Saturday incident as a potential precursor to the violence, although sources suggest it is part of broader ideological and territorial objectives.
