Yobe Takes Unconventional Path Against Boko Haram, Launches “Spiritual Warfare”

Yobe State, Nigeria, is facing a blackout crisis exacerbated by Boko Haram attacks on electricity towers. In response to repeated attacks, the state government has initiated a “spiritual war” against the militant group.

Since December 2023, Boko Haram has targeted electricity infrastructure, plunging Yobe and neighboring Borno State into darkness. This has crippled daily life and economic activity, leaving residents frustrated and desperate for a solution.

On Wednesday, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State took a unique approach. He led a prayer ceremony with prominent Islamic clerics and Quranic students.

The Yobe State government has already twice shouldered the burden of repairing the damaged towers. However, the relentless targeting by Boko Haram underscores the persistent struggle against the insurgency.

The prayer session involved the sacrifice of cows, symbolizing a plea for divine intervention. Prayers focused on exposing and punishing those responsible for the attacks.
