Nigeria’s President Jets Off to Paris Amid Terror Attacks in Plateau

President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, departed Abuja for Paris, France, on Wednesday on a “private visit” according to a statement by his spokesman Ajuri Ngalale.

Tinubu travelled out of the country while a terrible genocide is taking place in Plateau State. The wave of ongoing violence targeting the Christian population in Mangu, 42 miles southeast of Plateau’s capital city of Jos, began on the night of January 22.

Authorities in the central Nigerian State imposed a 24-hour curfew in the county to halt the series of distressing attacks. Yet the situation remains tense.

The armed assailants, shouting ‘Allahu akbar (God is great), have left a trail of destruction, including the burning of numerous houses. A college graduate, Miss Beatrice Ringmechit Dauda was burnt alive with five family members.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Tinubu does not think that it is time for decisive action. The Nigerian President is expected back in the country in the first week of February.
