Nigerian Senate Passes Confidence Vote on Military and Police Amidst Rising Insecurity

The Nigerian Senate has said it is impressed with the efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in tackling the scary security threats in the country.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja; the  Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar;  the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; the Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi; and the Director General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar met with the Senate on Tuesday.

The nine-hour closed-door session was to discuss the state of Nigeria’s precarious security situation and to chart a way forward. The media were barred from covering the proceedings.

“We passed a vote of confidence because we are impressed with what they have been doing so far,” Senate spokesman Adeyemi Adaramodu told local press after the marathon session.

“We listened to the military and other security chiefs, and we related with them. They allayed our fears and answered our questions satisfactorily, ” he added.
