Northern Nigerian Governors Head to the U.S. for Security Symposium

Ten governors from northern Nigeria are heading to the U.S. next week for a security symposium focused on addressing regional challenges. This comes amid ongoing security challenges in the region, including banditry, kidnappings, and religious extremism.

Governors Dikko Radda of Katsina State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State are expected to attend. Others include the governors of Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Sokoto States.

The symposium, organized by the Africa Center at the U.S. Institute of Peace, will bring together the governors with U.S. officials and security experts to discuss solutions for combating insecurity in northern Nigeria.

The governors are expected to participate in discussions on strengthening regional security cooperation, fostering information sharing, and exploring potential avenues for U.S. assistance in tackling these issues, according to Ibrahim Mohammed Kaula, chief press secretary to Governor Radda.
