Nigeria on High Alert: Military Warns of Attacks on Key Infrastructure

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a security alert, urging Nigerians to be vigilant due to intelligence reports indicating that terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and ISWAP, are planning attacks on critical infrastructure.

“We are aware of some of the plans to target some critical infrastructure in the country. Accordingly, we have placed measures to forestall such plans,” declared DHQ spokesperson Major General Edward Buba, without revealing specifics of the military’s countermeasures.

Security for power grids, communication networks, and other essential infrastructure has been heightened.

The military’s alert highlights the ever-present security threats in Nigeria. The country has witnessed a rise in attacks on critical infrastructure, especially electricity transmission towers in recent months.

The military stressed the importance of public cooperation in ensuring security. “In this fight, citizens must understand that we must never compromise on security, otherwise everyone’s security will be compromised,” Buba stressed.
