Gunmen abduct 2 Korean expatriates in Rivers County

A convoy carrying Korean nationals working for Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company came under fire near Yenagoa, the capital city of oil-rich Bayelsa State. The attack killed four soldier escorts and two drivers.

The gunmen kidnapped two Korean employees of the company during the attack on the East–West Road, near the town of Ahoada in Rivers State, 22.56 miles from Yenegoa, on Tuesday morning. The foreigners were en route to their company’s headquarters in Bayelsa.

A security source who confirmed the attack to The Sun said the bandits ambushed the expatriates despite heavy security presence.

“During the attack, the assailants opened fire on the convoy killing four soldiers and two civilian drivers, and subsequently abducted two Koreans in the process,” he said. The number of people in the convoy was not reported.
