The Islamist insurgent group, Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) killed a police officer in the early hours of Friday (today) in Gubio town, Borno State. The jihadists made away with one official police van.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the terrorists, who rode two Hilux cars and motorcycles, attacked the police headquarters in Gubio and rained gunshots at exactly 2:00 a.m. local time.
The police officers were taken unawares but managed to fight back. Sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama said a policeman lost his life in the fierce gun duel while the whereabouts of a constable remain unknown, fuelling concerns that he might have been abducted.
