The traditional ruler of Akpabuyo county of Cross River State, His Royal Highness Etinyin Lawrence Nya Edet, who was abducted on Monday (Dec. 11) has been rescued.

According to the CrossRiverWatch, the king was rescued by naval officers in neighbouring Akwa Ibom State in the late hours of Wednesday (Dec. 13). The officers killed 10 of his kidnappers during the operation.

The source, who confirmed the monarch’s freedom to the online newspaper, said he is receiving medical treatment at a hospital. But police authorities in Calabar, the Cross River State capital city, said they cannot confirm the development.

“We are still on it,” Irene Ugbo, the police spokesperson in the State said, “As much as we want him released, our hands are on deck to make sure he is released.”
