Police bust armed robbery gang over deadly attack in Otukpo

The Nigerian police announced on Monday that four of the gang of robbers behind the chilling bank robbery in Otukpo, a densely populated town in Benue State, on October 20 have been caught.

TruthNigeria reported how a group of 12 to 20 heavily armed gunmen stormed branches of Access Bank, United Bank of Africa, Stanbic IBTC Bank, and Zenith Bank located in the commercial district of the town and stole millions from the banks’ vaults. The robbers also gunned down more than eight persons including four cops in the deadly attack.

Olukayode Egbetokun, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, said, at a televised press briefing, that the police launched a sneak attack on the dare-devil robbers at their secret enclave. Two criminals died during the operation.

Egbetokun further said that the Nigerian police in the last 10 weeks rescued 134 kidnapped victims, and arrested 375 suspected kidnappers, 578 armed robbery suspects and 2,343 suspects for other criminal offences during different operations across the country.
