Police With Help of Citizen Guards Nail Bandits, Rescue 40 Hostages

Civilian guards and local hunters assisted the police track down a gang of kidnappers in Yorro County of Taraba State. The operation led to the rescue of 40 hostages.

The local hunters and civilian guards, called vigilantes in Nigeria, said Taraba State Police Commissioner David Illoyanomon on Monday, tracked the bandits to their hideout located atop the Gongomaliki mountain in the dense terrains of Yorro county.

While the local heroes climbed the mountain to attack the bandits, the police mounted guard at the foothills.

The bandits fled at the menacing sight of the security team, but ten of them were caught.

The victims had suffered injuries of varying degrees. The abductors plucked out one of the victim’s eyes, while another had a gunshot wound. They were taken to the hospital for proper medical attention.

Illoyanomon said the police and the citizen guards are on the lookout for the other members of the gang who escaped.

Ezinwanne Onwuka reports for TruthNigeria from Abuja.
