Unknown Gunmen Kill Teenage Herder, 50 Cows in Plateau

Bandits murdered a 17-year-old herder in crisis-torn Plateau State on Tuesday. Dozens of cattle and sheep were also victims of the unprovoked attack.

Local media reported Thursday that the attack was in Barkin Ladi county of the Northcentral state. The bandits rode into Fanzo village on motorbikes and opened fire on a group of herdsmen grazing cattle.

“They killed one of the herdsmen and injured another. The gunmen also took away more than 50 of the cattle. Some of the cattle died, while others were slaughtered because they already had bullet wounds,” Alhaji Dan-Azumi, a local who lost 21 cattle in the attack, told Daily Trust.

Reacting to the attack, Governor Caleb Mutfwang said on Thursday that he has directed security agencies “to hunt and track down” the unknown assailants.

“My administration will no longer tolerate brutal killings of innocent citizens either in their farms or in any parts of the state while pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood,” the Governor added.

Ezinwanne Onwuka reports for TruthNigeria from Abuja.
