Bandits Blow Up Bridge in Zamfara Community in Revenge for Leader’s Death

An explosive planted by bandits destroyed a bridge in Maru County, Zamfara State, killing one person on Sunday.

Residents said the explosive was planted during an attempted attack on Unguwar Galadima town to avenge the September killing of their leader, Sani Black, by local vigilantes. Black, a key figure in Zamfara’s terrorism network, was killed in an ambush.

The bandits loyal to Black reportedly launched the failed attack but suffered heavy casualties, abandoning weapons and fleeing. Unknown to residents, the bandits had planted the explosive near a bridge linking Unguwar Galadima to Dansadau town, intending to disrupt military reinforcements.

“There are soldiers stationed at Dansadau town; they can easily move to Unguwar Galadima, which is about two kilometres away, to repel the attack, so the bandits planted the bomb for the soldiers. But nobody passed through the route until a lone unidentified driver did, and his vehicle got burnt beyond recognition,” Haruna Isyaku, a resident, told Premium Times.

Fear has since gripped Dansadau and nearby areas over the bandits’ use of explosives.
