Unconfirmed Casualties as Bandits Launch Attack in Niger Market

Reports emerged last night of an attack by Islamist Fulani terrorists on a market in Niger State, Nigeria. The incident, reported in Madaka community, Rafi County [Local Governance Area], has caused panic and uncertainty, with unconfirmed numbers of casualties.

Details remain sketchy at this time. Local sources report that the heavily armed bandits stormed the market at its peak, around 3:00 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately on traders and customers. The ensuing chaos led to people fleeing for their lives, making it difficult to determine the exact number of casualties.

Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier General Bello Mohammed (rtd), confirmed the attack but did not provide details on casualties. Security forces have reportedly been deployed to the area to restore order and secure the market.
