A joint security operation dismantled criminal hideouts in Ogbaru County (local government area) in Nigeria’s Southeast Anambra State. Led by the police and backed by the military, the operation targeted camps used by gunmen and criminals behind recent attacks.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation, which lasted for several hours, was a resounding success.
Security forces combed areas around Amiyi and Ochuche towns, finding and destroying several camps. “Locations around Amiyi and Ochuche areas of the local government were combed in search of the insurgents,” the statement read.
The joint security forces faced resistance from the criminals, but their superior firepower ultimately prevailed. They also recovered and safely defused nine dangerous IEDs.
“Several camps were found and destroyed during the operation,” SP Ikenga continued. “Nine Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) recovered from the camps were safely defused by the Police Bomb Squad.”
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has commended the security forces for their professionalism and bravery while warning the criminals running amok in the state that their days are numbered.
