Six Soldiers Responding to Boko Haram Killed in Road Accident

Six Nigerian soldiers perished in a road accident on Wednesday while answering a distress call related to Boko Haram activity. The soldiers, attached to Operation Hadin Kai, the Nigerian military’s mission against Boko Haram insurgents, were deployed to Bama, Borno State.

SaharaReporters report that the soldiers were traveling in a troop carrier when the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and overturned multiple times.

Seven soldiers were said to be onboard. Six lives were lost – four at the scene and two after succumbing to injuries at the hospital.

A military source confirmed the incident to the local media, stating, “There was a Boko Haram attack, so they called them for reinforcement. On their way, they were called to turn back as they were facing another route, as the driver was about turning back, the vehicle skidded off.”

Authorities have yet to comment on the development.
